Soderbergh pushes his directorial skills through this innovative paranormal narrative captured wholly from the viewpoint of the spirit. The Black Phone
Derrickson's locked-room horror holds up well despite the lack of a continuation. Set in 1970s Colorado, a series of disappearances has left the youth on edge. The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the battle between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for greed in Showalter's wonderfully garish true story of the disgraced televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. The actor plays the corrupt Bakker, who states early on, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye commence monetising the people's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, though Jessica Chastain manages to depict Tammy Faye as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, 1.15am, Film4
